Science Week
This week the children in Mr McGuire’s 2nd class
took part in Science Week. The class learned a lot about the wonders of science
and the world. This week we completed two exciting experiments.
Experiment 1:
Skittles Rainbow
The first experiment revolved around, changing a solid into a liquid. This involved placing a circle of Skittles on a plate, then warm water was applied. After a few minutes, the solid colour on the Skittles started to melt (solid to a liquid) and a wonderful liquid of colours (like a rainbow) could be seen.
Experiment 2: Dancing
Raisins
The second experiment revolved around, a chemical reaction
between an acid (vinegar) and a base (baking soda). A spoon of baking soda was
placed in a glass, then it was half-filled with water, the remainder of the
glass with vinegar. Then after a few moments, there was a chemical reaction (Cardon
Dioxide formed), then the raisins were lifted up and spun around by the
reaction. It appeared like the raisins were dancing.
Overall, it was a fun and exciting week, and the children learned a lot.-Mr McGuire
